Attended a meeting with the principal and the parent of a student who was returning from the suspension he received for making threats to a member of staff. I observed the principal’s approach in determining the student underlying issues by extracting pertinent information from the parent. I also spent time investigating a disturbance which occurred between a parent and two students, one of whom is a member of the third year. The Deputy Head assisted with the investigations. It was agreed that the student of the third year inserted himself into a situation which did not concern him. His involvement led to the disturbance which occurred in the Six Roads area 24 Oct 2024.

Time was also spent addressing other disciplinary matters involving other third year students while I conducted in-house suspensions with them.

Spent time trying to curb and resolve some of the issues with students were having with one of their subject teachers. This was alluded to in the log made 24 Oct 2024. The parents of students were notified, and I asked for their assistance in curb some of the behavioural problems of the students. I contacted the subject teacher, and I gained more clarity on the causes of the problems within the class. I held in-house suspensions for students who persistently created problems within the classroom. A few suspensions were prepared for the more severe cases that I dealt with today.

I was encouraged and motivated by one of the teachers in the third year to resume remedial type work with some of the problematic student who stay with me throughout the day under in-house suspension. The main gist of the conversation surrounded her personal experience doing similar work with some of the difficult students in her form.

Meet with the parents of a very problematic student to discuss away forward after her return from suspension.

I also connected with the Guidance counsellor to get advice on how to handle four other problematic students. Problems include disrespect for authority, harassment, destruction of school property and disruptions in the class. I also spent time discussing the possibility of a student transfer from the Princess Margaret Secondary School because of her intentions of relocating to the Northern part of the Island. The parents of the student who was accused of having the weapon were also notified and they were asked to be vigilant.

Spent time observing the school’s psychologist conduct a clinical assessment for an extremely difficult student. His aim was to start the process of finding the underlying issues or causal issues behind the behaviours of this student. The parent and student were asked to be honest when answering various questions which were aimed at targeting and finding the root causes of the behaviours.

Spent time reviewing online u-Tube videos on conflict resolution. Some of these videos would be shared with the teachers of the third year as suggested ways to encourage discussion in their individual classes. The intention is to create the opportunity for them to pass on the necessary skills that would equip the students when they are confronted with conflict.

Created word search puzzle, cross word puzzle online using key words associated with conflict resolution. I shared these in the google classroom for the third-year team. I also shared a PowerPoint presentation which was shared by another staff member who assisted the year group in the first year. I also shared some of the videos which I researched previously. I told the members of the year group about what was posted and they were given the freedom to use what ever they wanted. They were also encouraged to share resources with the rest of the team. They were also encouraged to provide worksheets in their respective subject areas for the year group to assist in the event of timetable suspensions.
